Generation Remix

Youth Delegates from Generation Remix, Shield, and Flippgen with Fr. Michael Baggot
When world leaders, tech pioneers, and theologians gathered inside Campo Santo and the Vatican Academy of Sciences for the AI for Humanity Summit, one message echoed through the halls: the future of artificial intelligence must serve human flourishing.

Organized and hosted by the Magnificent Humanity Foundation, the summit brought together global thinkers to address the ethical, societal, and spiritual dimensions of rapid technological change. Invited to ensure digital natives had a seat at the table, Generation Remix, in partnership with Shield the Future and Flippgen, facilitated an international youth delegation to bring the lived experiences of young people directly into global AI policy discussions.

Answering a Historic Call

The delegation’s mission was directly inspired by Pope Leo XIV’s encyclical letter, Magnifica Humanitas, which declared:
“Each generation inherits the task of shaping its own era, of guiding history to become a place where the dignity of every person is safeguarded, justice is promoted, and fraternity is made possible.”
Answering the Magnificent Humanity Foundation’s invitation, Generation Remix convened five young changemakers representing diverse global perspectives. Together, these young leaders entered the Vatican not just as attendees, but as active co-creators of the AI future in which they will live, work, and lead.

Defining “Human Flourishing” in the AI Era

Throughout the three-day summit, the delegates brought essential clarity, ethical rigor, and hope to discussions on safety and regulation. During a dedicated youth panel hosted by the foundation, delegates explored what it means to truly flourish in an AI-driven world:

  • Diletta (Italy) emphasized safeguarding human creativity so young people can pursue authentic personal passions and bring beauty into the world.
  • Allegra (UK) highlighted the necessity of positive economic outlooks and meaningful career pathways for emerging young professionals.
  • Vittoria (Italy) spoke on the profound agency that comes from having youth voices genuinely valued in rooms of global power.
  • Alex (US) shared the importance of intergenerational wisdom, grounding tech ethics in real-world community, trust, and connection.
  • Upendo (Kenya) delivered a powerful call for developer accountability, reminding global leaders: “Creators and world leaders should never disregard safety on behalf of ‘advancement’; you cannot advance something when the people who use it are broken and fragile.”

Reflections & Commitments to Action

As part of the summit’s closing commitments under Magnifica Humanitas, each youth delegate outlined their personal pledge to carry this work forward in their home communities:
“I will always remember when Bishop Tighe thanked us for sharing our voices. As a leader, the most important thing I can do is create spaces and invite dialogue between as many youth as possible. I commit to not being scared to ask and push to be in places with AI leaders, policy leaders, and more.” — Alex, US Delegate
“I am inspired to share with my peers what I’ve learned so they can keep educating themselves, protect themselves better, and make conscious decisions.” — Diletta, Italian Delegate
“Participating in the youth panel was a fantastic opportunity to present our reality to people across all sectors. As I have more conversations with those around me, I strive to include as many perspectives as possible in my work.” — Allegra, UK Delegate
“Participating in the AI dialogue at the Vatican was an unforgettable experience. AI is moving fast, but it must be guided by strong values, fairness, and care for everyone. I am committed to helping lead this conversation to ensure AI never replaces us.” — Vittoria, Italian Delegate

What’s Next?

The AI for Humanity Summit marks the beginning of an ongoing movement. Moving forward, Generation Remix youth delegates will continue to collaborate with the Magnificent Humanity Foundation and partner organization, Shield the Future, on global AI safeguarding solutions, participating in follow-up convenings and embedding these ethical frameworks directly into our peer-to-peer leadership model.
